This is an opportunity for you to join content expert Leah MacPherson, RDH, BS, MHP, and other fellow educators to discuss strategies for flipping a perio, either a class session or a whole course. Have you wanted to incorporate active learning strategies in your classroom but are not sure you have the class time to complete them? Consider flipping your classroom to allow time for effective learning experiences in perio. If you have flipped a classroom come share your experiences!

Objectives:

• Discuss flipped vs traditional classroom.
• Review the main elements of a flipped classroom.
• Discuss strategies for effective implementation.
• Discuss common pitfalls for flipping.
• Discuss active learning activities relevant to periodontology.

Educators Platform Masterminds are dynamic two-hour virtual sessions building on each other’s challenges, ideas and successes in the presence of a content expert. Mastermind sessions are thoughtfully facilitated to create an environment for like-minded colleagues to share and learn from one another with the goal of collective professional growth and development. Sessions are uniquely tailored to the needs of participants. Those attending will have the opportunity to create strong connections with other participants to last a whole career.

More about our content expert: Leah MacPherson received an Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene at the University of New England, an Advanced Dental Hygiene Certificate at Forsyth School for Dental Hygienists, and a Master’s Degree at Northeastern University. Leah is currently at Middlesex Community College teaching Periodontology, Pre-clinic, Concepts in Dental Hygiene I, Local Anesthesia, and Clinic. She has been teaching in a flipped classroom for over 16 years. Leah loves how a flipped classroom has created the space for active engaging learning techniques in the class sessions. Leah also received the National Teaching and Leadership Excellence Award and the Course of Distinction Award for her hybrid flipped course in Periodontology.

Attendees of Educators Platform Mastermind sessions will earn 2 CEU in Educational Methods.
