This is an opportunity for you to join content expert Tulsi Patel, RDH, MHA and other fellow educators to discuss evidence-based strategies for classifying health and gingivitis using the latest American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) classification system and treatment planning cases. This session will share strategies and resources to better equip students and faculty with the ability to distinguish periodontal and non-periodontal health and gingivitis cases and how to manage patients according to the latest guidelines.

Objectives:

• Identify and apply the latest American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) classification system to accurately distinguish between periodontal and non-periodontal health and gingivitis cases.
• Analyze clinical cases using evidence-based strategies to determine appropriate periodontal classifications and develop effective treatment plans for health and gingivitis.
• Demonstrate understanding of the key differences between health and gingivitis in both periodontal and non-periodontal contexts through case-based discussions.
• Utilize educational resources and strategies to enhance student and faculty competence in classifying and managing health and gingivitis according to latest AAP guidelines.

Educators Platform Masterminds are dynamic two-hour virtual sessions building on each other’s challenges, ideas and successes in the presence of a content expert. Mastermind sessions are thoughtfully facilitated to create an environment for like-minded colleagues to share and learn from one another with the goal of collective professional growth and development. Sessions are uniquely tailored to the needs of participants. More about our content expert: Ms. Patel serves as the Director of Health Promotion and Associate Professor at UTHealth School of Dentistry at Houston (UTSD). She has served as a course director for numerous courses at UTSD but has a true passion for periodontology. She actively presents calibration workshops on periodontal classification at regional, national and international conferences. One of her most recent accomplishments includes co-creating a “Chairside Guide on 2017 AAP Classifications” for Dimensions of Dental Hygiene.
